Scam…Or the Interesting day I’ve Had!

Scam…Or the Interesting day I’ve Had!

Ok, now how does this have anything to do with Relaxation and Meditation or even with Music? Please hang on for the ride and I will explain later.

Today was a good day.  This morning, I was looking thru Google Plus and suddenly I had a new follower. Without much thought I went ahead and followed her.  A little later I got invited to Hang-Out and the below conversation took place during the course of the day.

Now I may get on Google’s Bad List ; but truly I cannot resist…

The Bait

Belinda Hans DietRicho???  Or…    You decide!

The Pitch

Hello Mr , Sanders Whitley How are you doing Sir ? Belinda •

Mon, 3:45 AM Just fine. And you?

Mon, 6:22 AM Good day Mr. Sanders Whitley .

I decided to write you this proposal in good faith, believing that you will not betray me. I have been in search of someone with this last name “Whitley” so when I saw your name I was pushed to contact you and see how best we can assist each other.  I am Mrs. Belinda DietRich Hans, a Banker here In Frankfurt, Germany.

I believe it is the wish of God for me to come across you on here. I am having an important business discussion I wish to share with you which I believe will interest you because, it is in connection with your last name and you are going to benefit from it.

One Late Mr. Naveed Whitley,  A citizen of your country had a fixed deposit with my bank in 2012 for 36 calendar months;  Valued at (Seven Million, Five Hundred Thousand Euro)  The due date for this deposit contract was this 16 of January 2015. But sadly Mr. Naveed Whitley,  was among the death victims in the Malaysian Plain Crash, as on his way for a business trip,  and that was how he met his end.

My bank management is yet to know about his death,  I knew about it because he was my friend and I am his account officer. Mr. Naveed Whitley, did not mention any Next of Kin/ Heir when the account was opened,  and he was not married and no children. Two weeks ago my Bank Management requested that Mr. Naveed Whitley,  should give instructions on what to do about his funds, if to renew the contract.  I know this will happen and that is why I have been looking for a means to handle the situation,  because if my Bank Directors happens to know that Mr. Naveed Whitley, is dead and do not have any Heir,  they will take the funds for their personal use, so I don’t want such to happen.

That was why when I saw your name I was happy and I am now seeking for your co-operation to present you as the Next of Kin/ Heir to the account, since you have the same last name with the deceased,  and my bank head quarters will release the account to you. There is no risk involved in this Sir, the transaction will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you and me  from any breach of law. It is better that we claim the money, than allowing the Bank Directors to take it, because they are rich already.

I am not a greedy person, so I am suggesting we share the funds equal, 50/50% to both parties,  my share will assist me to start my own company which has been my dream.

Let me know your mind on this and please do treat this information as TOP SECRET.
We shall go over the details once I receive your urgent response strictly through my personal email address, Below:::

Looking forward to your communication.
Mrs. Belinda DietRich Hans.

My Initial Response

Thank you so much for contacting me regarding this matter. Strangely enough, I remember my Dad speaking of his brother and the great times they had as children.
Unfortunately, I cannot in good faith share my inheritance with you, but thank you so much for helping resolve what has become of my father’s beloved brother. Looking forward to seeing you soon. Sanders.

And we Dance!

Mon, 5:34 PM Sir i mean your Personal email address that we can use to discuss this Privately or still you can write to my email address this is my email address sir Belinda •

Mon, 9:30 PM So sorry Maam. Guess I made a slight mistake. The truth is, with all the different scams, you will need to give a little to get a lot, so to speak.
Please provide me with the banks name and city. No worries about private emails. This method of communicating is just as secure as any gmail account.

My Conclusions

First, may I have a moment to reflect on Uncle Naveed. Rest in Peace, beloved Uncle.  Ok. This was a good day because I had something totally useless to think about, which allowed me some great relaxation.  No stress and if any started to creep in, I just re-read the pitch and the World became right again.  A advantage to getting this type of scam offer is I had time to reflect and think of something off-center to respond with, such as my retweet of Black Cherry Moon (see, I got some music in here).  Phone call scams are fun too, but you have to be quick on responses.

The key to using scams as a means to relax is to remember that anger will accomplish nothing but causing stress for you. Just relax, have a great time and Never, and I mean EVER, give out any personal information.

Gee, I hope Google does not punish me too bad!

  1. Oh dear! I don’t even respond to those types of requests. There are tons of people who are trying to get your information unethically. At least you took it in a light hearted manner.

    • Hi Melinda, I have a slightly warped sense of humor and this one caught me when I was already relaxed and ready for a change of pace. I honestly thought the end would be with we saying I would not share “my inheritance” but… I do agree that the best approach is to ignore and report the attempt. I failed to ignore, but did report it to Google.

  2. Awesome way of handling it.
I get more scams on our house phone than anything anymore.
It is normally them saying I have been awarded money from the government.
I live in the US and I know our government isn’t just going to hand out money like picking our names out of a hat or something.
So due to the conversation with your person, was there still that one part of you that was wishing there was some truth to it?

    • LeeAnne, Some truth? No. All true? Yes yes yes. I would love to legally be awarded 7 some million Euros. But anytime there is a ethical or moral issue, I try to steer to the right.
Scams are so many these days that I simply carry on. For the money from US Government, just tell them to donate it to Senator Joe D. Odie from the 3rd Senate district. He/she will pay any fees ect.
Please remember to never give out your information and inform the police of the scam.
      Thanks for your comments.

  3. Hi Sanders, I do get emails like this, phone calls also saying I won a lottery I never joined, lol. You handled it well and i agree with you, never give any information, not only personal but any. In short, just ignore.

    • Thank you. I kind of liked the fact that they kept trying, even after I sent them a link for Black Cherry Moon. But, all fun aside, I knew what info they already had and anyone is welcome to use it. As I tell my wife, sometimes I wish someone would steal my identity, maybe they would feel sorry for me and deposit a little money into my account.
Tell the King, Greetings and take care,
